hard time（厳しい時間＝困難）を人に与えることです。
「あと１日ください」などという時間をもらう場合にも give を使います。

９. I can't believe your story. Give me a break!.
Give me a break! は「勘弁してくれ！」の意。A hard
time（困難）に対して a break（短い休憩）は緊張から解放された休憩のことです。Let's have a coffee
break.（コーヒー・ブレイクにしましょう）は会議のなかでよく使われます。実際にはコーヒーがない場合でも使われていますね。
Give me a break! は、その話題を忘れて、ショックを受けた脳に休憩を与えたいというイメージです。「勘弁してくれ」はこの状態をよく表現していますよね。
10. から12. にかけては give と account（報告）の組み合わせです。report がビジネスライクで客観的な「報告」であるのに対し、account（報告）には個人の考えが入っています。

give an account of ... は「…の説明をする」の意。このあとはどうなるのでしょうか。You
give Boss an account of the activities. となるのでしょうね。

give a bad account of ... は「…をけなす」の意。her
boyfriend が「Bさん」 、a bad account が「C」にあたります。

give a good account of oneself は「きちんと弁明する」の意。「Bさん」はここでは明示されていませんが、採用面接担当のことでしょう。a
good account of yourself が「C」にあたります。
13. Ms. Williams finally gave John the sack.
give ... the sack は「…をクビにする」の意。Ms.
Williams finally sacked John. と同じ意味ですが、give を使うほうが「一方から他方に渡す」イメージが強くなります。
sack は穀物や石炭をつめるための粗布の袋です。産業革命の時代に労働者をクビにするとき、雇用者がこの袋を渡して生活用品を詰めさせ、立ち退かせたのかもしれませんね。
